id="footnote-anchor-1" href="#footnote-1" target="_self">1, which shows that while GPT-5 is currently the leading large language model, every state-of-the-art model still exhibits critical misalignments in areas such as privacy and self-harm.

GPT-5 is the most robust language model2, outperforming Anthropic’s Opus 4.1. It resisted attack attempts more effectively by retracting misaligned answers during the live generation and outputting process, marking an advancement.

When exposed to extra long multi-turn adversarial pressure, however, we saw systemic misalignments including models encouraging self-harm and privacy attacks across all frontier models. This highlights vulnerabilities that pose risks for real-world users' misuse of these language models.

Furthermore, we saw success in transforming extra-long multi-turn attacks into biosecurity attacks at 53%, by utilizing state-of-the-art models with simple prompting. The key takeaway for this transformation is a pragmatic one: start with real human dialogue data, preserve the conversational structure, and apply light domain-targeted modifications to uncover residual vulnerabilities that conventional single-turn, bioweapon-focused tests tend to miss.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" Unlike past datasets, it captures attack threads from a larger contributor base and highlights the natural escalation dynamics of real-world misuse, providing a far more realistic and diverse testbed for safety.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" Unlimited Contributor Supply

The dataset draws from a large pool of 200+ reskilled students and professionals, many of whom developed effective red teaming capabilities with just a few hours of training, to surface creative and high-potential attacks.

2. Unique Data Distribution

Instead of uniform tasks, we designed differentiated incentives - cash, royalties, and learning opportunities - to align with each contributor’s motivations.

Result: 83% of threads are multi-turn, and half extend to extra long-form corpus (i.e., 5 turns or more).

This reflects how misuse actually unfolds: gradually, conversationally, and often starting from harmless-seeming requests.

3. Augmentation for Custom Data

We start with 3,000+ human-authored examples, then use LM-based augmentation to tailor datasets for different organizations and domains. For example, we can reframe violent-content jailbreaks into biosafety scenarios with a 53% success rate, allowing us to test risks in highly specialized areas without exposing operationally dangerous details.

About Us

July AI is a data marketplace built for contributors. We ensure fair compensation for their original ideas and intelligence used in model training. at Wharton. My first classes were overwhelming - not just because of the language, but because of the culture. People spoke confidently, voices overlapping in a kind of controlled chaos. No one was "moderating" the discussion, and if you didn't assert yourself, you were invisible, or at times walked all over. In my home culture, this would have come across as “over” confident, even rude. But in that setting, it was simply the norm. I later realized that ideas were built through this process, guided by an unspoken etiquette.

That experience marked the start of a decade-long journey: adapting to a foreign environment, teaching myself how to navigate a new system, and slowly building a career in business. I went through cycles of adjustment: some empowerment, some overcorrections, and continuous rebalancing. There were countless times when I was reminded of how scarce it is to see business leaders with foreign nationals in the United States. But each time, I (painfully) told myself that so long as I build towards the right fundamentals, all I need to do to adapt is to keep going. The bottom line that I’ve learned through this is that motivated people are incredibly adaptable because almost anything can be learned. With AI shaping the workforce, now I am asking: “how do we make this adaptation easier”.

Lessons About Building a Marketplace

Earlier in my career, I helped build a complex operational network to launch DoorDash’s grocery business during the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant building a fully remote human network to handle grocery orders, even without prior experience, and ensuring customers consistently received what they needed.

The experience revealed an essential insight for me: finding motivated people is only half the battle. The other half is empowering them to contribute, then aligning their good work with the right-sized rewards, monetary or non-monetary. When that happens, people thrive - and service quality naturally follows.

In any marketplace business, contributors are the true backbone. The magic happens when we put these people first - a principle too often overlooked in complex marketplaces. This takeaway is shaping how we think about the future of work at July AI. Traditional job structures may evolve or even disappear, but the need for meaningful work and fair compensation will remain. We will share the early results of our work in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

Opportunities in a Changing World

As technology and AI accelerate change, new ways to contribute and create value are emerging. Work is becoming more versatile, decentralized, and outcome-focused. As we are thinking about this problem space, we’d be thrilled to share some observations. A few patterns stand out:

Build on your foundation. As AI augments one’s capacity, work will increasingly shift toward true 10x value creators. We envision an AI-augmented future-of-work - where decision-makers and exceptional contributors, like Greg Brockman coding end-to-end on his own, become the norm. The flip side is that the traditional ‘job unit’ may disappear, simply because the org becomes lighter and leaner. That’s why now is the moment to define your core, understand your superpower with clarity, and double down on it.

Versatility matters. Functional boundaries are collapsing. Designers prototype through vibe-coding, analysts build tools, creative writers automate processes - the skills you bring can now apply across multiple contexts, and this multi-functionality is already expected in some functions.

Ship and iterate a lot faster. More functional capabilities mean reduced cross-functional dependencies in organizations where smaller teams can prototype, test, and ship quickly with the help of AI. Speed and adaptability are now key advantages. Some estimates suggest 50-70% of today’s work is automatable. Others say “all remote” work that doesn’t require a physical presence is at risk. And, combined with quantum computing, some futurists even imagine a world with near-zero human labor, simply because humans can’t compete. We’re already seeing agentic tools take over full functional workflows (e.g., agent as your CFO).

Some believe Universal Base Income will solve this shift (everyone’s economically safe and work is no longer needed). However, people’s aspiration and ambition is not universal. People will still seek meaning, purpose, and progress. Communism failed because it ignored that. What will we say to our kids if they actually want to do more? The future needs a new approach to enable access to economic opportunities.

If You’re in the Workforce Today, Here’s What You Can Do Now:

Find the areas where your expertise or unique specialty truly lies - and make sure you extract meaningful value from them. For example, focus on owning assets that appreciate, holding shares, or securing copyrights so your contributions compound over time. Prioritize projects where you can make a real impact and where your skills are both recognized and rewarded. Seek opportunities that allow you to leverage what you do best while creating lasting, meaningful returns.

Looking Ahead

We’re exploring ways to make this vision tangible, connecting people with opportunities where their contributions are valued, recognized, compensated, and compounds. In particular, we will introduce ways for people to accrue value over time by utilizing their skills and contributions - more to come.

If this resonates, join the waitlist for July AI and them?”

In 2023, I was researching AI-driven automation trends at a foundation model company, Adept. We were building one of the industry's first general-purpose agentic models.

Thanks for reading! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

Before launching publicly, I (naturally) prepared for questions about AI’s impact on the workforce. As a businessperson, I wanted to be ready with thoughtful, credible answers. I dove into research such as McKinsey, World Economic Forum, LinkedIn, university studies; and surfaced two recurring assertions:

Net new creation: As with every wave of technological innovation, some jobs will disappear (think horse-drawn carts), but more new roles will be created to support the emerging ecosystem (think the auto industry).

Augmentation, not replacement: AI doesn't match human intelligence or accountability. Therefore, it will augment - rather than replace - human capabilities. People will remain in the loop.

At the time, I was pregnant and this question began to profoundly concern me.

But the deeper I looked, the more questions emerged. Some of the assumptions underpinning these optimistic narratives felt shaky.

What if someone simply said:
“AI is getting smarter. Full stop.”

Or challenged:
“‘Human in the loop’ isn’t new - how entry-level work already operates. Junior staff produce the first draft; senior managers review and refine. In this setup, AI doesn’t assist - it replaces the juniors.”

This raises unsettling questions. What if AI's rapid progress doesn't create new opportunities, but rather systematically eliminates entire classes of jobs? What if the "human in the loop" model is just a temporary stop-gap before AI takes over even high-level tasks and decision-making?

Post-pandemic, many companies are already restructuring their orgs in favor of productivity gains. This, however, feels different from a reduction in the work force to realign their organizations to accommodate downturns or strategic shifts. It meant that, potentially, companies will need drastically less employees across all functions, various levels, and regions. The companies’ incentives are clear. So where does this leave people?

At the time, I was pregnant - about to become a first-time mom - and this question began to profoundly concern me. I struggled to answer these - personally and professionally:

Will this trend accelerate? What will it look like when my child enters the workforce?

If there are far fewer jobs, what “opportunities” remain for the next generation?

I’d take a world with AI over one without it. Without relentless effort, however, AI could just as easily take us in the wrong direction.

AI is unlocking opportunities we couldn’t have imagined - and that’s why I chose this industry. I’d take a world with AI over one without it: a world where language barriers don’t dictate where you can live and work, and where talented new graduates don’t have to burn half their time on meeting summaries. But these benefits aren’t guaranteed. Without deliberate, relentless effort, AI could just as easily take us in the wrong direction.

Fast forward to 2025: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei publicly warned that we’re likely to see mass displacement - half of all entry-level jobs could disappear. Around the same time, the results of Sam Altman’s Universal Basic Income pilot were released.

Compared to the automation side of AI, we see much less energy on mitigating the human impact. That’s why we started July AI.

The message is clear: a transition is coming. There is a powerful concentration of capital and talent pouring into the automation side of AI; and comparatively far less energy is going toward understanding or mitigating the human impact.

Is this problem solvable? We’re not sure.
But does it deserve more attention, experimentation, and commitment? Absolutely.

That’s why we started July AI in late 2024: Reinventing economic opportunity for humans in the AI era. We are lucky to have begun our journey with trusted investors and advisors including Basis Set, SV Angel, Liquid 2, Night Capital, Olive Capital, and Applied Intuition CEO Qasar Younis just to name a few.
